Information on the loop

Description of the loop

This route is designed for experienced cyclists. It covers 123 kilometres of country roads in the area around Neufchâteau to the west of the department.

When you leave Contrexéville head towards Suriauville. You can warm up on the hilly road which takes you to La Vacheresse-et-la-Rouillie, a village nestling against a hill. Here you meet the first difficulty on the tour. The road winds its way alternately through forests and fields towards Malaincourt, a funny little pass in the heart of the plain. Proceed in the direction of Landaville, where ‘Flandrienne’, a real hill, stands ahead of you. Ride along a flat narrow backroad and down a steep hill in Cerilleux until you come to the Valley of the Mouzon river where you have a relatively easy stretch before the steep climb after leaving Pompierre.

Be careful on the descent to Bazoilles. As soon as you have crossed the Meuse river you come to the Bazoilles hill at the foot of the Main Noire Pass. This is the last ascent on the route. What is to come is just as challenging: ride round the north of Neufchâteau along a road that is exposed to strong winds until you reach the Vair Valley and your starting point at Contrexéville.
