Information on the loop

Description of the loop

This is the Gérardmer long-distance triathlon bike course, which is completed three times for the showpiece event. It covers a distance of 31.2 kilometres with an accumulated elevation gain of 623 metres. It offers long flat stretches and gentle uphill climbs broken by three steep hills which take you from one valley to the next and from one lake to another.

The starting point is in Gérardmer near to the casino. Ride through the town and then take the forest road to the top of the first hill. You can recover in the descent and on the flat stretch along Lake Longemer. Proceed to Lake Retournemer and then take the road up to the Feignes sous Vologne pass: this 3-kilometre climb has tretches with gradients over 7%. You reach an altitude of practically 1000 metres before starting on the descent down into the Chajoux valley. It is a fast downhill ride under the cover of the spruce trees growing on either side of the winding road. When you reach the lake of Lispach, continue for about 2 kilometres till you come to the Metty bridge. Turn right here along the Route de la Courbe, which is very steep in places with a 17% gradient on one stretch. This leads to the Grosse Pierre pass. From here you cross the short Haut de la Côte pass and literally plunge into the Bas-Rupts and then into Gérardmer.
